If you have lots of dinosaurs lying around your house then you could try making Fizzy Dino Tracks as well. The colors are exciting to watch and the fizziness never gets old. Plan to do this activity again and again and again. Then put the toys back down in the baking soda, grab some more vinegar, and start the activity over again. Count the footprints, talk about their size/shape, and talk about the colors and textures you see. Once the fizziness stops, carefully pick up each of your animals and talk about the footprints that they left. The vinegar will fizz once it touches the baking soda! (It is fun to survey your kids ahead of time to ask what they think will happen when you drop the vinegar on the feet). Use the dropper and squeeze colored vinegar onto the feet of each of the toys. To make fizzy footprints, stick some animals into a pan covered with baking soda.

Practice showing your kids how to squeeze the droppers without touching the baking soda (though sucking up baking soda is also fun to do). Also, make sure to put the baking soda in a pan or on a plate. Once materials are all set up, pour vinegar into little cups and mix food coloring into each cup so that you have several colors to use.
Supplies Needed: baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, stirrer, droppers, pie pan, little cups, toys/action figures with feet, and paper towels. My toddler just learned to count to five, so this exercise was good review for her! The ponies had four feet, the octopus had eight legs, goofy had two feet, the cow had four feet, and the astronaut had two feet. Once we had gathered several toys with feet, we set up our Fizzy Footprint station and then we counted feet. so we started off this activity by going on a hunt for feet! We hunted around the house for toys that had lots of different types of feet. especially when you add a little food coloring and some new props. There is something so refreshing and exciting about vinegar/baking soda reactions. We buy the huge containers of them at Costco. Seuss, so it was tough to pick which one we wanted to share with you today.Īfter a lot of thinking, we decided to read The Foot Book and share a simple baking soda/vinegar activity with you!īaking soda and vinegar are staples at our house.
