Reacting to the RBI’s rate hike announcement and its impact on markets, Ravi Singh, vice president and head of research at Share India Securities said “In line with the expectation, RBI has increased the repo rate by 50 basis points and is already discounted by the market. All the six members of the MPC unanimously voted for the latest rate hike. The move follows a 40 bps increase done by the central bank in an unscheduled meeting last month. The RBI on Wednesday raised the interest rate by 50 bps to a two-year high of 4.9 per cent as it doubled down to curb the inflation rate that has surged during the last few months.
